The Sole Supplier stated at the end of last year that a sacai x Nike Cortez was in the works. While many sneakerheads were skeptical, the Chitose Abe-led company just unveiled it alongside its Pre-Fall Women's and Fall/Winter 2022 Men's collections - and we're getting our first look!
The first of the two colorways, "White" and "Grey," is clearly influenced by the original pair that debuted in 1972. The former has a silky nylon structure and buttery suede lacing system in the same colours as the original, marking fifty years since the silhouette's debut. The latter, on the other hand, chooses a more subtle approach. The result is an exceedingly wearable shoe that can rock any 'fit you throw at it, thanks to the use of fifty hues of grey.
Of course, no discussion of this desired collaboration would be complete without addressing the sacai-isms sprinkled throughout the collection. This is deconstruction at its finest, with two tongues and two Nike Swooshes all set on top of two midsoles. An exposed Air bubble inspired from the Air Zoom Tempo NEXT percent can be found at the front of the sneaker.
The sacai x Nike Cortez collaboration has yet to be announced, however it will most likely be released later this year.
