It's insane to imagine Tom Sachs' last Swoosh partnership was nearly two years ago. The notorious Overshoe was published by the New York-based contemporary artist in 2019, and while he did send out Mars Yard 2.5 tester kits to a select lucky folks in 2020, he hasn't issued an official sneaker in nearly three years. We're getting our first glimpse at the Tom Sachs x NikeCraft "General Purpose Shoe" as admirers of his work wait for his next launch - and here's all we know thus far!
The General Purpose Shoe, based on the Killshot silhouette, is rumored to be the NYC designer's next collaboration with Beaverton. It has a multi-paneled construction made of a variety of materials and is designed for everyday wear. The majority of the sneaker is made of light cream ballistic mesh, with leather covering the heel and mudguards. A substantial amount of taping is also used for a professional fit and finish.
The lateral and medial side panels feature a two-dimensional white Nike Swoosh, and the inside tongue, like the Mars Yard, features a personalized tag with Sachs' signature. The midsole is coated in gum rubber underfoot, and the clean cut design is completed with a strong blue pull button.
The Tom Sachs x NikeCraft General Purpose Shoe is set to release later this year and is expected to be one of the most anticipated releases of the year!
