Nike's footwear lineups have undeniably grown in strength over the past year as a result of collaborations with well-known personalities in the industry. The COMME des GARONS x Nike Premier, the sportswear giant's latest collaboration with Rei Kawakubo, mixes two models that result in a problematic construction.
The Nike Premier design by the Japanese designer is available in two monochrome colorways and was originally seen on the runway at Rei Kawakubo's "Landscape of Shadows" Fall/Winter 2021 collection in March. The CDG Nike Premier blends Nike football boots from the early 1990s with a heel design, featuring traditional "Black" and "White" color palettes with quilted leather panels.
To keep the basic look of football bots, Nike uses a studded rubber outsole unit under the forefoot, Swoosh emblems on the side for a trademark touch, and CDG branding on the insoles to complete the hybrid style. While we're not sure whether you'll see someone wearing these on the streets, we're confident that die-hard lovers of Rei Kawakubo's work would put this on their wish list.
Let us know what you think of the COMME des GARCONS x Nike Premier collaboration.
