The Adidas Superstar 82 Now Has A 'Sashiko' Design On It

Adidas is introducing a new Superstar 82 with the 'Sashiko' design. The pair has incorporated the traditional Japanese stitching design and is expected to be published by the end of 2021.

Sashiko is a traditional Japanese technique. It entails using stitch patterns to decorate and reinforce cloth. The practice dates back to the 17th century and literally translates to "small stitches." Farmers at the time woven their garments from vegetable fibers like hemp. The textiles were stained with indigo and treated with robust stitch designs to reinforce them.

The approach is most common in Asian culture. This design is also used by adidas on the Superstar 82. The upcoming pair has an upper made of canvas. The Sashiko prints can be found on the upper in the traditional blue and white colours. The tongue and toeshell are both beige with blue embroidery.

There is also fading adidas branding on the tongue. This gives the couple a retro appearance. The Japanese design has also been applied to the overlays surrounding the laces. Finally, the central panels have fabric patches. The three adidas stripes are sewn on them.

The adidas Superstar 82 'Sashiko' release date is currently unknown. The duo is expected to be released by the end of 2021.
