This Electric Vehicle-Inspired Ecological Shoe Has A Scandinavian Aesthetic

In a cooperation with Casca footwear, Volvo Cars Canada is putting its best foot forward to promote a carbon-neutral future.

The limited-edition sneaker will be on sale on September 22nd, World Car-Free Day, and the objective, according to Casca co-founder, was to develop a shoe rooted in conscientious design and reflecting the automaker's first all-electric vehicle's Scandinavian inspirations. Canadians will be able to purchase the sneaker for $198.

“The Volvo XC40 Recharge was designed to reduce environmental impact, so it was the perfect inspiration for the shoe,” Kevin Reid said, noting that the collaboration marked several firsts for Casca, including the company's first shared design, the fastest production to market, and the use of new recycled materials never used before by Casca.

Here are some of the shoe's highlights: The Swedish flag is represented on one shoe tag, while the Casca yellow can be seen on the other, honoring the collaboration between the two brands as well as minimalist, Scandinavian design; the Volvo Thor hammer headlight influence can be seen on the other; and the Swedish flag is represented on one shoe tag, while the Casca yellow can be seen on the other, honoring the collaboration between the two brands as well as minimalist, Scandinavian design; and the Volvo Thor hammer headlight influence can be seen on the other.

“At Volvo Cars, we are committed to setting the highest standards of sustainability in mobility and that goes beyond electrifying our fleet to transforming all aspects of our business,” said Matt Girgis, managing director of Volvo Cars Canada. “The shoe we have created with Casca in celebration of World Car-Free Day is one way to recognize the many steps we are taking on our journey to climate neutrality.”

The goal of World Car-Free Day is to raise global awareness about the need of decreasing air pollution and encouraging people to live more active lifestyles. It is observed in approximately 2,000 places and 35 nations worldwide.
