The Nike Air Max BW "Persian Violet" Has Returned Like It Was In 1991

Close your eyes for a moment. The year is 19991, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Vanilla Ice are at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, and Nike has just introduced the Air Max BW, a future classic.

The BW was well-received when it first hit the streets — designed as a lighter alternative to the Air Max 1 and utilizing the same Air unit as the Air Max 90, the shape took the finest features of its predecessors and expanded them.

Tinker Hatfield's retooling of the AM90 midsole unit inspired the BW, or 'Big Window.' The Big Window kept the technology and operation of the 90 at its heart, but the stripped-back foam exposed more of the Air unit. The BW is "Air Even More Max," as the old commercial for the sneaker described it.

The sneaker's popularity grew during the early 2000s, propelling it to the forefront of the music world, where it was featured on the front cover of Dizzie Rascal's first album Boy in Da Corner in 2003.

The Nike Air Max BW is making a comeback in its original hue. The finish is a testimony to the shoe's longevity and cultural significance, since it is a timeless combination of white, black, and "Persian Violet."
