If you thought New Balance's winning streak was over, you were mistaken; it appears like we're just getting started.
Although it would be incorrect to state that New Balance is always last to produce sneakers, 2021 has proved to be a particularly good year for the company. It's difficult to recall a month when there wasn't a throwback, exclusive, or collaboration. New Balance has apparently covered all areas, from Paperboy earlier this year to a more recent WTAPS collaboration and forthcoming drop with The Basement.
Run the Boroughs is the next team to step up to the bat and keep up the pace. The London-based running group has been establishing a community via sport since 2019, with NB gear providing the necessary equipment. The strong relationship between the brand and the club has been utilized to highlight the benefits of running, leveling the playing field and making it more accessible to everyone.
As a result, the Run the Boroughs New Balance 991 was born in cooperation with and in honor of the Virgin Money London Marathon. The silhouette is a blue-tinted version of the traditional greyscale coloring we've come to know and love on the 990x series, drawing influence from London's dark concrete roads and often wet weather.
Run The Boroughs is holding a competition on their Instagram page for ten lucky people to win a pair of the 991's by accompanying the RTB team for a run around East London.
