Unexpected, but well-executed partnerships with outside groups like the Grateful Dead and Ben & Jerry's have been a part of Nike SB's current revival. Each of those collaborations resulted in unorthodox pairs that were originally received with suspicion, but went on to become some of the most sought-after releases in recent memory. Now, Nike SB is pushing the boundaries of the Dunk High design once more, this time collaborating with the designers of the Japanese anime franchise Gundam for a new collection.
Any mention of Gundam x Nike in the past conjured up images of the Air Max 98, which was first launched in a colorway called "Gundam" due to its resemblance to the RX-78-2 robot from the anime. It's an official union this time, with two SB Dunk High colors set to release as part of the "Project Unicorn" Collection. The collection is based on the novel Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn, which is set in the Gundam world.
The RX-0 and Banshee Norn Destroy Mode outfits inspired each shoe's design. The colors are simple, but the toebox and detachable Swooshes are designed to seem like components of the corresponding costumes.
Officially recognized project The heels are adorned with unicorn stamps, and each pair looks to come with a sheet of decals.
The Gundam x Nike SB Dunk Highs are yet to be given a release date, but we'll keep you updated as more information becomes available.
