Is it a mule, or something else? Is it a pair of sandals? The answer is yes to both. The Niobium Concept 2 is a hybrid design from New Balance that provides you the best of both worlds, especially now that we're well into the summer season and everyone is looking for that go-to sneaker alternative.
New Balance is already back with two new hues of the Niobium Concept 2 after unveiling the modular sandal through a highly sought-after collaboration with Snow Peak. The upcoming album, suitably titled "Water and Dirt Trail," is inspired by nature, notably the dirt trails and sources of water typically found while trekking. The brown colorway is a homage to the trails, while the navy colorway is a nod to the lake.
The silhouette is described as a two-way outdoor sandal with a detachable heel strap that converts the shoe from a sandal to a mule. The Niobium Concept 2 isn't merely adaptable and appealing to the eye. It's also quite useful, as it has the Fresh Foam Hierro's sole unit, which is New Balance's best-selling trail running shoe. The Fresh Foam X in the sole gives you unrivaled flexibility, while the asymmetrical and robust design adds stability and shock absorption. The Vibram MEGAGRIP rip outsole then ensures long-lasting durability and great traction on any surface.
As New Balance points out, the Niobium Concept 2's design features open mesh panels, robust suede construction, and geometric patterned webbing, all of which pay homage to historical outdoor clothing. To summarize, whether you're hitting the trails this season or not, this is one shoe you'll want to have in your arsenal.
