Looks:
The top on the Adidas ZX-4000 is what you notice first, as insane as the 4D sole is. A tighter-knit neon green primeknit upper starts at the toe and is bordered on the inside by a blue primeknit panel and on the outside by a suede panel – held on with orange stitching – at the flex point.
Returning to the midfoot, bule suede panels run along with the eyelets and frame the bulk of the upper, which bears the wavy ZX Logo seen on other Adidas ZX shoes. Between the blue panels, the bulk of the top is made up of mint green and blue primeknit design, with grey cushioned sections at the heel. The hazy three-stripes emblem on the side is the only actual Adidas branding. A rigid panel bends back away from your foot on the back of the shoe.
The laces go through a grey fake leather panel with the shoe's name at the bottom and alternate over the teal tongue before reaching a grey panel with the Adidas Originals emblem at the top. The underside of the tongue is a brilliant orange on the inside, matching the insole.
The 4D midsole is made up of hundreds of little individual strands in a distinct shade of green. The density of the strands varies across the midsole, resulting in a variety of designs depending on which way you look at it.
Finally, the outsole has an 80s-inspired design that is largely black. Adidas, of course, couldn't resist adding another green to the mix. Teal was also thrown in here and there by the designer.
Overall, the materials have performed admirably. Apart from the outsole, the only major worn area is some loose threads on the orange stitching after being brought out of the closet 100 times. That's to be anticipated with them at the flexpoint of the shoe. The suede has held up well and has withstood stains, which is very remarkable to me.
Fit & Comfort:
This shoe has one of the strangest fits of all of my possessions. Because the shoe is so thin, most individuals will need to move up a size from their usual size. Unfortunately, Adidas chose an excessively lengthy last in comparison to most other designs. Because of these two factors, many people will have a lot of empty space at the front of their shoes. This would be a deal breaker for a lot of folks, but if you have narrower feet, it might not bother you as much.
The shoe's upper is quite comfy. There is greater stability in this shoe than in other Adidas runners thanks to the thickly cushioned tongue and a primeknit that has a tighter weave and a liner. That isn't to say it restricts your foot. The weave, on the other hand, gives more stability and comfort than other primeknit-based shoes.
The 4D sole is quite hard right out of the box. There are more comfy Jordan retros available. When it comes to the midsole, the Adidas ZX 4000 has one thing going for it: the curved form. These shoes give the arch support that orthopedic shoes are known for.
Fortunately, the sole breaks in and becomes much more comfortable with time. The midsole softens after around 50 wears in the regions where it hits the ground often. While I appreciate that the hardness is dissipating, what I find most intriguing is that the sole continues to be supportive in the crucial areas.
These two characteristics combine to form an unusual combination. It's still no boost, but if I had to stand for hours, I'd choose this pair over an Ultraboost every time - but it's still not as comfy as a New Balance 992 in the same situation.
Materials:
As previously said, the materials used in this shoe are of excellent quality. The primeknit on the top is a bit thicker than what Adidas usually employs. There's also a liner to keep the shoe from feeling too loose. Although the suede is thinner than that used on some other items, it has proven to be quite durable.
The midsole is built in a way that is unlike anything else on the market. A light-activated polymer is used to create the 4D midsole. To put it another way, imagine a 3D printer with a very bright LED light instead of a nozzle.
The outsole has also proven to be quite durable. These shoes have been worn on concrete, asphalt, and brick. Despite this, the outsole displays virtually little heel drag.
Ease Of Care:
While the materials utilized are durable, they are also difficult to keep clean. Because of the brightness and vivid hues, every bit of dirt is apparent straight away. While all of the materials in the top may be cleaned, you'll have to do so in a unique method for each one. Cleaning will take some time.
The midsole looks to be tough to clean at first glance - if you had to wash off each of the strands individually, you'd go mad – but luckily, you can quickly rinse it off by dipping it in water without harming the material.
